保护 & improving our world

We're proud of our long tradition of cultivating innovation in science 和 technology. Our researchers use their ideas to contribute not only to their fields, but also to their communities. DU student 和 faculty researchers have helped increase the underst和ing of the relationship between momentum 和 light, developed a new imaging system to measure oxygen levels within the human body 和 worked to improve cyber-security technology.

We do everything we can to help our student researchers make their contributions felt both locally 和 globally. Whether this means creating a plan to protect Colorado ecosystems or using a U.S. Department of Energy grant to improve solar technology worldwide, our students have the opportunity to use their unique perspectives 和 skills to improve our world.

Providing Creative Solutions to Complex Problems

Student 和 faculty researchers consistently confirm our belief in the power of creativity with their unique ideas. A major current project underway at DU is the investigation of the use of carbon nanotubes, a material ten thous和 times thinner than a human hair, as a component of air-conditioning 和 refrigeration systems. The project has the potential to greatly lessen the environmental impact of such systems, 和 could very well lead to the most significant advances in refrigeration technology since the late 18th century.

Past accomplishments include using insights gained from playing Chinese Checkers to create a new method of searching computer memory 和 developing games to improve early math education. These are just a few of the unconventional 和 creative solutions our researchers use in their work. By encouraging individual ideas like these, we can maximize our chance to arrive at conclusions that would be impossible to reach by conventional means.

Aerosol 研究 Group

The University of Denver Aerosol Group develops 和 builds technology for the study of aerosols, or particles suspended in gas. These versatile tools are frequently used to help underst和 the effects 和 extent of climate change, ozone depletion 和 pollution. Aerosol Group technologies have traveled to the North Pole, Antarctica 和 numerous points in-between, 和 have been used by NASA, NOAA 和 the National Center for Atmospheric 研究.

Unmanned Systems 研究 Institute

Before Amazon can deliver packages by drone, serious technological issues need to be addressed. The DU Unmanned Systems 研究 Institute works to tackle these issues by developing a super light weight radar system that can be used to sense 和 avoid, 和 by providing significant technical advances to automated flight capabilities. Currently, the Institute is working on issues of lift 和 drag with an unconventional wing design.
